Printer Routing

Drinks to the bar, food to the kitchen

Route every order to the right printer, automatically. Drink orders print a label at the bar, food tickets print in the kitchen – no more one ticket the whole line has to squint at and sort by hand.

Square's category-to-printer routing is powerful but fiddly to set up. Ordare checks the catalog side for you and hands you the exact steps for Square – so it works the first time.

Why it matters

The right ticket, at the right station

When drinks and food print where they're made, the line moves faster and mistakes drop. Here's what routing gets you.

Drinks to the bar

Coffee, cold brew, and every drink category print a label right where they’re poured.

Food to the kitchen

Kitchen items print a ticket at the line, so nothing waits on the wrong station.

One label per drink

Set Square to split drink orders into a label each – ready to slap on the cup.

Fewer mistakes

No single shared ticket to sort by hand, so orders don’t get missed or mixed up.

Faster tickets

Every station sees only what it makes, the moment the order is placed.

Uses your Square printers

Routing runs on the printers you already have set up in Square – nothing new to buy.

How it works

Ordare does the fiddly part

Square routes by category – but only if your catalog is set up just right. Ordare checks that side for you, then walks you through the one step Square keeps in its own app.

1

Categories in Square

Square routes by category, so each one your items use has to exist in Square. Ordare shows which are still local-only and pushes them up in a click.

2

Items linked to Square

A categorized item only routes once it’s linked to a Square catalog item. Ordare flags anything unlinked – and anything with no category that would never route.

3

Set the printer profile

The last step lives in Square. Ordare generates the exact steps for your menu – including which of your categories to print – so you set it once and you’re done.

Square doesn’t offer an API to configure printers, so that final step is a one-time setup in Square. Ordare makes it foolproof by handing you the precise, menu-specific instructions.
